The new wind addition. A long rectangle was the only site area available for a foot print expansion. The multi-purpose room with a sprung floor. This room is used as a quiet reading room or as a noisy party space.A solid concrete exterior with a less expensive steel structure behind. A long hallway connecting much needed children's activity rooms at the lower level and new admin offices and multipurpose room above. The scalloped upper hall overlooks the lower hall and serves as viewing area into the adjacent curling rink. A sky light extending the full length of this hall provides daylight down to both levels. On the left, the lower hallway, showing benches for waiting parents. On the right, upper hallway showing curvilinear glass railing with round viewing areas into curling rink. On the left, round glass block room in music school for focused practice. Other rooms have non-parallel room shapes to prevent unwanted harmonics. On the right, close up of benches for waiting parents, which double as a retaining wall for the length of the building which retains the foundations to immediately adjacent curling rink.

DMA completed a 10 year Master Plan for this prestigious Vancouver club. This involved gathering comprehensive input from 5000 members re what they wanted in their club for the next ten years. We then had to synthesize this often contradictory or conflicting set of objectives into a package that 90 percent of the membership eventually approved. The final Master Plan involved adding 40,000 square feet to an already crowded site, with 23 fewer parking stalls. This then had to be approved by a Vancouver Council that had already declared the Club to be built to maximum. Once the City approved the Master Plan as designed, our firm then designed and built several renovations and additions based on this Master Plan. The new addition shown here housed the Club administration offices, a licensed day care, art and crafts room, yoga/martial arts room, music school, and a large multipurpose room with a sprung floor which could be use for performances and private parties.
